The vast wilderness of Damaraland stretches across a dramatic landscape of mountains, dry river valleys, and desert plains leading toward the Atlantic shoreline. This sparsely populated region preserves some of Namibia’s most striking natural scenery.
Along the coast lies the hauntingly beautiful Skeleton Coast, where powerful Atlantic waves crash against remote desert beaches. The coastline gained its name from the many shipwrecks scattered along the shore and the skeletal remains of whales once left by whaling ships.
Together, Damaraland and the Skeleton Coast form one of the most rugged and atmospheric landscapes in southern Africa.
