Wuerzburg

Würzburg – Bavaria, Germany

The city of Würzburg lies along the Main River in northern Bavaria, surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills. During the Middle Ages the city became an important ecclesiastical center governed by powerful Prince-Bishops.

The most famous landmark in Würzburg is the magnificent Würzburg Residence, a Baroque palace considered one of the greatest architectural masterpieces of Germany and now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overlooking the city from a nearby hill stands the imposing Marienberg Fortress, which served for centuries as the residence of the prince-bishops.

Würzburg’s historic architecture and scenic river setting make it one of the most beautiful cities in Franconia.
