Bremen – Germany

The city of Bremen lies along the Weser River in northern Germany and was one of the important members of the Hanseatic League, the powerful alliance of merchant cities that dominated trade across the Baltic and North Seas during the Middle Ages.

The historic center of Bremen contains one of the most beautiful market squares in Germany, surrounded by remarkable buildings including the Bremen Town Hall, a masterpiece of Gothic and Renaissance architecture and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby stands the famous statue of the Bremen Town Musicians, inspired by the well-known Grimm fairy tale.

The narrow medieval streets of the Schnoor Quarter, with their small houses and winding lanes, preserve the atmosphere of Bremen’s historic past.
