Saadian Tombs – Marrakech, Morocco

The Saadian Tombs date from the 16th century and were constructed during the rule of the Saadian dynasty, one of the great imperial families of Morocco. The tomb complex contains the burial sites of several Saadian rulers and members of the royal court.

The most remarkable structure within the complex is the Hall of Twelve Columns, where finely carved marble columns support an ornate cedarwood ceiling decorated with intricate Islamic patterns. The tombs are surrounded by quiet courtyards and gardens that reflect traditional Moroccan design.

Hidden for centuries behind palace walls, the tombs were rediscovered in 1917 and are now one of the most important historic sites in Marrakech.
