2012 Olympics Equestrian Dressage at Greenwich Park

Equestrian events at the London 2012 Olympic Games were held in Greenwich Park, one of London’s oldest Royal Parks and part of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. The temporary arena created a distinctive setting for dressage, show jumping, and eventing competitions within a historic landscape overlooking the River Thames.

The use of Greenwich Park reflected London’s effort to integrate Olympic events into historically significant environments while minimizing permanent alterations to the urban landscape. Dressage competitions took place between 2 and 9 August 2012 and showcased the precision, discipline, and partnership between rider and horse characteristic of this equestrian tradition.

Photographing equestrian events at Greenwich highlights the contrast between carefully choreographed athletic performance and the historic park setting, illustrating the integration of Olympic competition within one of London’s most recognizable cultural landscapes.
