Wroclaw City

Wrocław – Poland

Wrocław lies along several branches of the Oder River in southwestern Poland, where a network of islands and bridges connects the historic districts of the city. Founded more than a thousand years ago, the city has belonged at different times to Bohemia, Austria, Prussia, and Germany before becoming part of modern Poland after the Second World War.

The historic Market Square (Rynek) forms the heart of the city, surrounded by colorful merchant houses and the Gothic Old Town Hall. Nearby stands Cathedral Island (Ostrów Tumski), the oldest part of Wrocław, where towering cathedral spires rise above the river.

With its many bridges and waterways, Wrocław is sometimes referred to as the “Venice of Poland.”
