St. John’s – Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
St. John’s sits along the eastern edge of Newfoundland beside a narrow natural harbor that opens to the North Atlantic through a passage known as The Narrows. Surrounded by steep hills and rocky cliffs, the harbor has long served as one of the most important fishing and shipping ports in the North Atlantic.
The city is known for its brightly colored row houses, historic waterfront, and steep streets climbing the hills above the harbor. From the heights of nearby Signal Hill, sweeping views extend across the harbor entrance and the open Atlantic Ocean beyond.
As one of the oldest European-established settlements in North America, St. John’s reflects centuries of maritime history shaped by the cod fishery and the harsh conditions of the North Atlantic coast.
