Rhodes Archaeological Museum
The Rhodes Archaeological Museum is housed within the former Hospital of the Knights, a medieval structure that reflects the island’s later historical importance. The collection preserves sculptures, inscriptions, ceramics, and funerary objects representing the cultural development of Rhodes from antiquity through the Hellenistic period. The building itself contributes to the interpretation of the exhibits by illustrating later phases of occupation.
Statues and decorative elements demonstrate artistic traditions influenced by trade connections across the eastern Mediterranean. Many objects originate from ancient sanctuaries and settlements on the island, providing context for the religious and civic life of the region. The museum allows visitors to understand how Rhodes participated in broader networks of cultural exchange.
Together with nearby archaeological sites, the museum helps reconstruct the historical continuity of the island. The preserved artifacts illustrate the artistic and political significance of Rhodes within the ancient Greek world.
