Ragusa – Sicily, Italy
The hilltop city of Ragusa is one of the most beautiful towns in southeastern Sicily. Following a devastating earthquake in 1693, the city was rebuilt in an elegant Sicilian Baroque style, resulting in a dramatic landscape of churches, palaces, and winding streets.
The historic district of Ragusa Ibla sits on a rocky hill surrounded by deep valleys, creating sweeping views across the surrounding countryside. Ornate balconies, sculpted façades, and grand staircases reflect the architectural creativity of the Baroque reconstruction.
Today Ragusa forms part of the Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto, recognized for its extraordinary architectural heritage.
