Pella – Greece
The ancient city of Pella served as the capital of the Kingdom of Macedon during the 4th century BCE. Located in northern Greece, the city became the political and cultural center of the Macedonian kingdom during the reigns of Philip II of Macedon and his son Alexander the Great.
Archaeological excavations have revealed the remains of large houses, public buildings, and elaborate floor mosaics that decorated the homes of wealthy citizens. These mosaics, depicting mythological scenes and hunting imagery, represent some of the finest examples of ancient Greek decorative art.
Pella offers a remarkable glimpse into the royal capital where Alexander the Great spent his early years.
