Lima Cathedral – Lima, Peru
The magnificent Lima Cathedral dominates the eastern side of Plaza Mayor in the historic center of Lima. Originally constructed in the 16th century, the cathedral has been rebuilt and expanded several times following earthquakes that struck the city.
Its elegant façade and richly decorated interior reflect the artistic and architectural traditions of the Spanish colonial period. The cathedral also houses the tomb of Francisco Pizarro, the founder of Lima.
Today Lima Cathedral remains one of the most important religious and historical landmarks in Peru.
