Innsbruck – Tyrol, Austria
Innsbruck lies in the Inn Valley in western Austria, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Tyrolean Alps. The city developed at an important crossroads where trade routes crossed the Alps between northern Europe and northern Italy.
The historic center is known for its colorful medieval buildings and narrow streets, with the famous Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl) overlooking the main square. This ornate balcony, built for Emperor Maximilian I in the early 16th century, remains one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.
Framed by steep alpine slopes rising directly above the valley, Innsbruck offers one of the most dramatic urban settings in the Austrian Alps.
