Aguas Calientes – Peru
The small mountain town of Aguas Calientes, officially known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, lies along the rushing waters of the Urubamba River beneath steep jungle-covered mountains. The town serves as the primary gateway for visitors traveling to the nearby ruins of Machu Picchu.
Accessible mainly by rail, Aguas Calientes developed to support travelers visiting the famous archaeological site. Hotels, restaurants, and markets line the narrow streets that wind through the valley.
Despite its role as a tourist center, the town retains a unique setting surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of the Andean cloud forest.
