Carrowmore – County Sligo, Ireland
The Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery lies on the Cúil Irra Peninsula near Sligo in northwestern Ireland. This remarkable archaeological site contains one of the largest collections of prehistoric tombs in Ireland, dating back more than 5,000 years to the Neolithic period.
The monuments include dolmens, passage tombs, and stone circles, arranged across a landscape that overlooks the surrounding countryside and nearby mountains such as Knocknarea, which itself contains a large prehistoric cairn.
Carrowmore forms part of a wider concentration of ancient monuments in the Sligo region, reflecting the deep prehistoric heritage of Ireland’s Atlantic landscape.
