Fisherman’s Bastion – Budapest, Hungary

Fisherman’s Bastion stands on Castle Hill overlooking the Danube River and the historic center of Budapest. Built in the late 19th century as part of a major restoration of the Buda Castle district, the structure was designed in a romantic Neo-Romanesque style with decorative towers, arcades, and terraces.

From its elevated balconies visitors can look across the Danube toward the Hungarian Parliament building and the wide boulevards of Pest. The white stone towers frame one of the most famous panoramic views of the city.

Despite its medieval appearance, Fisherman’s Bastion was built primarily as a scenic viewpoint celebrating the historic fishing guilds that once defended this section of the city walls.
