Carthage L’Acropolium – Tunisia

The Carthage Acropolium, originally known as the Cathedral of Saint Louis, stands on Byrsa Hill, the historic center of ancient Carthage. Constructed in the late 19th century during the French colonial period, the building was designed in a distinctive Byzantine and Moorish architectural style.

The cathedral was built near the location where King Louis IX of France died during the Eighth Crusade in 1270. After Tunisia gained independence, the structure was repurposed as a cultural venue known as the Acropolium.

Today the building hosts concerts and exhibitions while overlooking the archaeological landscapes of ancient Carthage.
