UNESCO: Tasmanian Wilderness

Ben Lomond – Tasmania, Australia

The rugged plateau of Ben Lomond National Park rises dramatically above the surrounding countryside of northeastern Tasmania. At the center of the park stands Ben Lomond, one of the island’s highest peaks.

The park is known for its alpine landscapes, dolerite cliffs, and sweeping views across the Tasmanian highlands. A winding mountain road climbs through a series of dramatic hairpin turns before reaching the elevated plateau near the summit.

During winter the area becomes one of Tasmania’s primary ski destinations, while in warmer months visitors explore hiking trails and scenic viewpoints across the high country.
