Tahuayo Lake and River – Peru

The calm waterways of the Tahuayo River and nearby Tahuayo Lake form part of the complex river network flowing through the rainforest of northeastern Peru. Surrounded by dense jungle and flooded forest, these waterways support a remarkable variety of wildlife.

Small boats glide through narrow channels beneath the rainforest canopy where monkeys, birds, and reptiles inhabit the surrounding vegetation. During seasonal flooding, nearby forests become partially submerged, creating a unique ecosystem where fish and aquatic species move through the forest itself.

The quiet lakes and rivers of the Tahuayo region provide one of the most immersive ways to experience the biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest.
