Expedition 51° Central

Expedition 51 – Central Newfoundland

The Expedition 51 Central portion of the journey crosses the interior of Newfoundland, where rolling hills, dense boreal forests, and countless lakes form a vast wilderness landscape. Rivers and streams drain these forests toward the surrounding coasts, creating remote valleys and quiet inland waterways.

Unlike the fishing villages of the coast, the communities of central Newfoundland developed primarily through forestry, transportation routes, and small inland settlements. Long stretches of highway pass through forests inhabited by wildlife such as moose, caribou, and black bears, giving travelers a sense of the island’s remote interior.

The landscape here reflects the wild character of Newfoundland’s interior, far from the coastal harbors that dominate the island’s maritime identity.
