Cawdor Castle and Gardens

Cawdor Castle – Scotland

The historic Cawdor Castle lies in the countryside east of Inverness and dates primarily from the 14th century. The castle is famous for its association with Macbeth, although the literary connection comes from Shakespeare’s imagination rather than historical fact.

At the heart of the castle stands a legendary holly tree, around which the original tower was constructed according to local tradition. Over time additional wings and gardens were added, transforming the fortress into an elegant country residence.

Today Cawdor Castle remains one of the most charming and historically intriguing castles in the Scottish Highlands.
