Buda Castle – Budapest, Hungary
Buda Castle occupies the southern portion of Castle Hill, rising high above the Danube on the western side of Budapest. The site has served as a royal residence since the Middle Ages and was repeatedly expanded and rebuilt as the political center of the Hungarian kingdom.
The castle complex today includes grand courtyards, palace buildings, and historic terraces overlooking the river. Nearby stands Matthias Church, whose colorful tiled roof and tall spire form one of the defining landmarks of the castle district.
From the castle terraces, sweeping views extend across the Danube to the historic boulevards and monumental buildings of Pest.
