Saint-Pierre – Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, France
The town of Saint-Pierre lies on the island of the same name within the small French territory of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, located just south of the coast of Newfoundland in the North Atlantic Ocean. Although surrounded by Canadian waters, the islands remain an overseas collectivity of France and preserve a strong French cultural identity.
Colorful houses, fishing docks, and narrow streets line the harbor, reflecting the community’s long connection to the North Atlantic cod fishery. For centuries the islands served as an important base for French fishermen working the rich fishing grounds off Newfoundland.
Today Saint-Pierre offers a unique blend of French and North American maritime culture, with views of rugged coastal landscapes and a harbor shaped by the powerful winds and seas of the North Atlantic.
