Expedition 51° West

Expedition 51 – West Coast, Newfoundland

The Expedition 51 West segment of the journey follows Newfoundland’s western coastline along the shores of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, where the Long Range Mountains rise sharply above the sea. This region contains some of the most dramatic coastal scenery on the island, with steep fjords, rocky headlands, and sweeping ocean views.

Fishing villages and small coastal towns appear along sheltered coves where the mountains descend toward the water. Offshore, the open gulf stretches westward toward the mainland of Canada, while inland the rugged ridges of the Long Range Mountains form the backbone of western Newfoundland.

This coastline marks the final stretch of the journey, where mountain landscapes and maritime culture combine to create one of the most striking coastal environments in Atlantic Canada.
