Hannover – Lower Saxony, Germany

Hannover stands along the Leine River in northern Germany and has long served as an important political and cultural center of the region of Lower Saxony. The city became the residence of the House of Hanover, whose rulers later ascended to the British throne in the early 18th century.

One of the most famous landmarks in the city is the Herrenhausen Gardens, a grand Baroque garden complex reflecting the influence of European royal landscape design. The historic old town contains reconstructed medieval streets and buildings following the destruction the city suffered during the Second World War.

Today Hannover remains a major cultural and economic center in northern Germany.
