Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Reserve – Peru
The protected rainforest of the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Regional Conservation Area covers hundreds of thousands of hectares of jungle along the tributaries of the Amazon River. Established to protect one of the most biodiverse regions of the Peruvian Amazon, the reserve supports extraordinary numbers of plant and animal species.
Dense forest, flooded wetlands, and winding rivers create habitats for monkeys, sloths, birds, reptiles, and countless insects. Conservation programs within the reserve work with local communities to protect wildlife while supporting sustainable livelihoods.
Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo remains one of the most important protected rainforest areas in northeastern Peru.
