Gdańsk – Poland
Gdańsk lies at the mouth of the Vistula River where it flows into the Baltic Sea, forming one of the most historically significant ports of northern Europe. During the Middle Ages the city became a major member of the Hanseatic League, a powerful network of trading cities that dominated commerce around the Baltic.
The historic center of Gdańsk is famous for its richly decorated merchant houses, Gothic churches, and waterfront warehouses lining the Motława River. Streets such as the Royal Way (Droga Królewska) lead through monumental gates and squares toward the city’s historic port.
With its maritime heritage and distinctive architecture, Gdańsk reflects centuries of trade, cultural exchange, and political change along the Baltic coast.
