Ben Youssef Madrassa – Marrakech, Morocco

The Ben Youssef Madrasa was once one of the most important centers of Islamic learning in Morocco. Founded in the 14th century and expanded during the Saadian period, the madrassa provided housing and education for hundreds of students studying theology, law, and religious scholarship.

The architecture of the madrassa is among the finest examples of Moroccan craftsmanship. Intricate zellij tilework, carved cedar wood, and detailed stucco decoration surround the central courtyard and student quarters.

Today the restored madrassa offers visitors a glimpse into the intellectual and artistic traditions that flourished in Marrakech for centuries.
