London Olympic Park
The creation of Olympic Park in Stratford formed the centerpiece of London’s long-term planning strategy for the 2012 Olympic Games. Developed on former industrial land in East London, the park represented one of the largest urban regeneration projects undertaken in the United Kingdom in recent decades. The project aimed to transform previously underutilized land into a permanent public space supporting sport, recreation, and community development.
The Olympic Park hosted multiple competition venues, including the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre, and Velodrome, while also providing public gathering spaces designed to accommodate visitors from around the world. The redevelopment emphasized sustainability and long-term legacy planning as key components of the Games.
Photographing Olympic Park documents the physical transformation of East London into a major international event site and illustrates the scale of planning required to host one of the world’s largest sporting events.
