Lima – Peru
The sprawling coastal metropolis of Lima stands along the Pacific coast of South America. Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, Lima became the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru, one of the most powerful colonial territories in the Spanish Empire.
The historic center of the city preserves grand plazas, churches, and colonial buildings that illustrate the architectural heritage of Spanish rule. At the same time, modern districts such as Miraflores and Barranco reflect the dynamic growth of contemporary Lima.
Today Lima serves as the political, cultural, and economic center of Peru.
