Graz – Austria
Graz, the capital of the Austrian state of Styria, lies along the Mur River in southeastern Austria where the foothills of the Alps begin to rise. The city has long served as an important cultural and commercial center connecting the Balkan regions with the heart of Central Europe.
The historic center of Graz is dominated by the Schlossberg, a steep hill topped by the famous Clock Tower (Uhrturm) overlooking the city’s red-tiled rooftops. Around the hill spreads a beautifully preserved old town filled with Renaissance courtyards, Baroque palaces, and narrow medieval streets.
Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Graz reflects the architectural heritage of the Habsburg Empire and marks the transition from the Balkan landscapes to the alpine regions of Austria.
