UNESCO: Historic Centre of the City of Salzburg

Getreidegasse – Salzburg, Austria

Getreidegasse is one of the most famous streets in Salzburg’s historic center. The narrow medieval street runs through the old town between tall buildings that date back several centuries.

The street is known for its distinctive ornate wrought-iron shop signs, many of which hang above the narrow passageways and arcaded courtyards that connect the buildings. Among the most notable sites along the street is Mozart’s Birthplace, where composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in 1756.

Today Getreidegasse remains one of the liveliest streets in Salzburg, filled with shops, cafés, and historic architecture that reflect the city’s long commercial history.
