Byzantine Museum of Corfu – Greece
The Byzantine Museum of Antivouniotissa is housed in a historic church within the old town of Corfu. The museum presents an important collection of religious icons and artifacts dating from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods.
Many of the works were created by artists of the Ionian School, which blended Byzantine artistic traditions with influences from the Venetian Renaissance. The collection includes painted icons, liturgical objects, and ecclesiastical artwork that illustrate the religious and artistic heritage of the region.
The museum provides a valuable perspective on the spiritual and artistic traditions that shaped Greek culture for centuries.

A complex narrative icon is organized as a sequence of architectural compartments filled with small groups of figures and episodes. Upper scenes unfold against a cityscape, while the lower registers use arcades and interior rooms to separate successive events. The panel demonstrates how multiple moments in a sacred story could be compressed into a single devotional image.
